History – We are proud to be one of the oldest cricket clubs in the bay area with roots dating back to 1893 when the club was called the Wanderers.  During the 1950’s it was named the San Jose Cricket club.  In 1990 we were called Silicon Valley Cricketers club and this is when we began to look for a new home ground after the city of San Jose was unable to provide us with the regulation type cricket facilities.  In 1992, after extensive petition campaign by club members – the Sunnyvale Mayor, Council members and Park and Recreation department unanimously consented to provide us with permanent cricket facilities at Ortega Park. We were renamed the Sunnyvale Cricket Club.  Our club partnership with the city has been extensively covered in many publications and magazines and it includes a cover story in India Today (an equivalent to Time magazine in India).

Facilities – Our cricket pitch is set in the heart of the city’s best-maintained and most picturesque parks (Ortega Park) and is surrounded by posh high-tech community.  It sports a permanent Astroturf playing wicket with regulation size boundaries as well as an Astroturf practice net.  The pitch is adjacent to the park’s picnic facilities which is shaded by a lot of trees and includes barbeque pits, children’s play areas with swings, slides as well as seating facilities to watch the game. Sunnyvale is located 50 miles south of San Francisco and is at the heart of the Silicon Valley. We are neighbored by San Jose, Santa Clara, Cupertino, Saratoga, Palo Alto and Mountain View.

Team – Our club is well respected in the Northern California for our cricketing talent, sportsmanship and professionalism.  We won the NCCA A – Division championship in 1994 and have been consistently ranked amongst the top 4 since 1993. The Sunnyvale Asteroids (A Team) were a close Runners Up in the 1999 Price Cup and Mike Miller Trophy.

The Sunnyvale Blazers (B Division Team) has done extremely well since its inception in 1997.  They are in the fourth season and having won the Bank of India cup in 1999, the Blazers have proven that they are a formidable team with good talent.  The Sunnyvale Blazers have been consistent in their performance and have maintained a position in the top four ever since the team participated in the league. Our membership is open to all and we seek and encourage the participation of the entire family at our games and get together.
