NCCA wins inaugural California Cup
|

California Cricket Association (NCCA)
& Southern California Cricket
Association (SCCA) present 'California
Cup' One-day cricket series.
Two of the premier cricket associations in the country, Northern California Cricket Association
(NCCA) and Southern California Cricket Association
(SCCA) announce the California Cup One-day series beginning April 10, 2004. This three game limited overs cricket series is hosted by SCCA in one of the country's finest Turf wickets at Woodley Fields,Van Nuys, Southern California. The first game of the California Cup series will be played on Saturday, April 10, 2004. The next game will be held on the Memorial Day weekend May 29 and May 30, 2004. It is a 50-overs series and will follow ICC One Day International rules.
The objectives of this series are to develop a talent pool, generate high-level competitive match experience and hone the skills of the players.
Former Tamilnadu Ranji and India Under-19 player, S.
Ramesh, will lead the NCCA side. Others in the team include, Abbas
Rizvi, Amit Dehra, Nirosh De Silva, Ozair Nana, Sunny Singh, Saeed Ahmad, Nauman Mustafa, Carmo Rodrigues,Fahad Khan, Rohan Dutt and Pruthviraj Panda.
SCCA will be represented by many prominent players from the USA team and players that have played representative cricket at the state level in India. The following will represent SCCA in the California Cup series - Inder Bir Singh (Captain), Aditya Thyagarajan (Vice-Captain) Aijaz Ali, Arshad
Junaid, Rashid Zia, Francis Sutherland, Clarence Williams, Ricky Singh, Jermaine Deer, Fazlur
Muzamil, John Zinto, Sumanjeet Singh, Raza Ahmed, Ali
Shafi, Ravi Timbawala. Reginald Benjamin is the coach and former Bangladesh National Cricketer Nazim Shirazi will be the manager along with Denis Stuart.

Together, the NCCA and SCCA serve an active membership of nearly 2000 cricketers and over 6000 active and past cricketers in the state of California. On any given summer weekend there are over 400 active cricketers that play in a total of seven divisions of scheduled league games. California's weather and dynamism along with decades of NCCA and SCCA's organized cricket have helped the cricket community to grow rapidly and has united diverse ethnic communities together, in this part of the country.

This competitive series will provide a keen fare for the cricket enthusiasts, budding cricketers and spectators. Best performers will be honored with individual awards for Man of the Series, Best Batsman, Best Bowler and Best All Rounder.
